Horses and Sheep in scripture

Art by Kelly J - December 2020

Horses were such a symbol of army strength in Bible times that God charged the Israelite kings not to keep many horses. The Lord did not want the Israelites to trust in their resources of strength, but He wanted them to rely on Himself for deliverance and victory from their enemies.

The prominence of sheep in the Bible symbolically refer to God's people. The very first shepherd was Abel. What Jesus said about sheep? When he comes home, he calls together his friends, his family and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance."
