Fancy Dancer

Artist Kelly J
This art shows a Fancy shawl dancer resembling a butterfly.
The shawl gives the dance its name and is a fringed, colorful, beaded traditional women’s blanket that extends over the length of the dancer’s wingspan.

I love my heritage and am proud to have first nations blood. I love how we are connected to life, each other, nature and animals. I love how strong our bond is with family and how deeply we love. I connect to our beliefs that go way back to the beginning of time. I am Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk in english) Haudenosaunee (Iroquois in english, people of the Longhouse) Ohkwari' (Bear Clan in english) We are Keepers of the Eastern Door.
